Zoo Gala 2009, sponsored by Trinity Medical Center, was the wildest party in Birmingham. With a Burmese python, a grey fox and a llama in attendance, the fundraiser was a spectacular event coordinated by chairs, Vickie Crenshaw, Kendall Eagan, Kim Fowler, Penney Hartline, Cissy Jackson, Kate Phillips, Laura Vogtle. For the second year in a row, the Zoo offered an on-line auction that featured art, jewelry and other items from local venues and businesses as well as vacation getaways and special Zoo packages. Animal appearances and the elegant, safari décor by Leah Hazzard of 3Graces Design created the ambiance of the event. Guests enjoyed an exotic atmosphere; candlelit lanterns and white cotton tents with bamboo and animal print carpets, and soft natural fiber pillows for lounging on while drinking the signature drink “Lionade,” a refreshing mixture of lemon cello and champagne.
