2010 Stokin’ the Fire BBQ Competition and Music Festival was held at Sloss Furnaces on August 20th and 21st. The more than 80 amateur BBQ cook teams competed for cash prizes and trophies which were hand made and created by the Sloss Furnaces metal artists. The Hog Wild Music Stage was jamming all weekend. Friday night guests enjoyed the sounds of Possum, Locust Fork and Wet Willie. While Saturday’s lineup featured The Jacks, Erin Mitchell, Young Buffalo, The Raygun Administration, Culture Dred and Junior Brown. After the winning cook teams receive $2,500 in cash prizes in the categories of chicken, ribs, dessert, best burger and people’s choice, the remainder of the money raised at Stokin’ the Fire will go toward the ongoing restoration of Sloss Furnaces, a national historic landmark.
