The Cahaba Grand ballroom was festooned with vivid yellow flowers and punches of teal and white, as supporters of Hand-In-Paw gathered for the ninth annual Picasso Pets Debut and Auction Seventeen animal artists, along with their presenters, strutted their stuff on the catwalk, while auctioneer Ken Jackson sold their artworks. The paintings were created in conjunction with more than a dozen “muses” – local artists who lend their talents each year to the fundraising event. Hand-In-Paw is Birmingham’s nationally-recognized animal-assisted therapy organization. Working within hospitals, social service agencies, schools, libraries and rehabilitation facilities, Hand-In-Paw’s professionally trained teams help people heal throughout Central Alabama. Last year, Hand-In-Paw volunteers made more than 55,000 client/patient contacts at no charge. Contact www.handinpaw.org for more information.
