On Thursday, October 14th, more than 300 guests convened at Vestavia Hills Library in the Forest for a special Sneak Peek event. While the Library’s official opening is slated for December 12, 2010, its Foundation, staff and board members hosted this early sneak peek as a thank you to those who have helped turn the community’s vision into reality. The facility, becoming Alabama’s first LEED-certified library and only the 39th in the nation bearing this distinction, is the culmination of more than five years of fundraising and careful planning. Guests enjoyed delicious catering from Vestavia’s own Everything Iz, with featured dishes including pear crostini, Panaang Shrimp Spring Rolls, Beef Wellington, caramel cake bites and chocolate mousse bombs. They were entertained by a variety of Over the Mountain area performers, including classical vocalist Kiley Watson with Ken Watson on piano, country/bluegrass vocalist Kelli Johnson. Delighting the crowd with the sounds of acoustical music were 2010 Vestavia Hills High School graduate Lauren Taylor Bachofer and current Mountain Brook Senior Gwin Walker. A live auction was also held to for the naming opportunity to the Rooftop Garden patio furnishings. Winners of the naming opportunity were Mayor Alberto “Butch” and Diane Zaragoza. Throughout the evening, Library in the Forest Board Chair Colin Coyne offered guests guided tours of the highlighting LEED features found within the new library. Popular new spaces with the guests included the Grand Hall, Observation Deck, and the Treehouse Reading Room.
