The UAB School of Engineering chapter of Engineers Without Borders hosted a live auction fundraiser inside a private events room at Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse to benefit the group’s May, 2010, humanitarian trip to the African nation of Zambia. More than 60 guests attended to bid on auction items that included a five-day South African safari for two and a two-night stay at a historic Sonoma Valley winery. More than $9,500 dollars were raised. The proceeds will help cover the volunteer group’s travel expenses. Once in Zambia, the UAB engineering group will begin the construction of a training center that will house educators who will promote a variety of skills to residents of the region, including water purification, adult literacy, sustainable agriculture and more.
