The Father’s Day Council and the American Diabetes Association joined together to host the 2011 Father of the Year Awards. Father of the Year honors outstanding fathers for their contributions to their family, profession and community. This year the council honored Mr. Michael Spisto as Father of the Year. This event also helped create awareness about diabetes and allowed the ADA to support its mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all those affected by diabetes. Diabetes affects nearly 21 million children and adults worldwide. Proceeds from this event supported life-saving research, and funded essential advocacy and education initiatives. Since its partnership in 2000, the Father’s Day Council and the American Diabetes Association have raised over $10 million for the American Diabetes Association.
