2010 Stokin' the Fire BBQ Competition and Music Festival was held at Sloss Furnaces on August 20th and 21st. The more than 80 amateur BBQ cook teams competed for cash prizes and trophies which were hand made and created by the Sloss Furnaces metal artists. The Hog Wild Music Stage was jamming all weekend. Friday night guests enjoyed the sounds of Possum, Locust Fork and Wet Willie. While Saturday's lineup featured The Jacks, Erin Mitchell, Young Buffalo, The Raygun Administration, Culture Dred and Junior Brown. After the winning cook teams receive $2,500 in cash prizes in the categories of chicken, ribs, dessert, best burger and people’s choice, the remainder of the money raised at Stokin’ the Fire will go toward the ongoing restoration of Sloss Furnaces, a national historic landmark.

New Gallery: Picasso Pets ‘10

The fundraiser held on August 14th at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center celebrated Picasso Pets’ 10th Birthday… That’s 70 in dog years! Top selling live auction item of the night included a pet painting that a shelter dog from the Greater Birmingham Humane Society did with well-known, local artist Arthur Price, a trip to the Columns estate in Jamaica and the chance for your dog to be the next face of marketing for Picasso Pets 2011. Honorary Chairs for the event were Jim & Katie Lasker and sponsorship chair, Mallie Ireland.

New Gallery: The White Party ‘10

Guests arrived WorkPlay Theatre, dressed in white -- head to toe. The 3rd annual White Party, hosted by friends, raised money for Magic Moments (which fulfills the non-medical wishes of chronically ill Alabama children, providing them an opportunity to turn away from illness and suffering– and feel what it is like to just be a kid again)! Attendees were treated to hor d’eouvres, beautiful white decor in the sound stage room and an attentive bar staff. The debut of Anti-Ageing drink and the "cosmetic cocktail" was also a hit. Local favorite, Teenage Daddy, provided the musical arrangements late into the evening. Guest then closed the night with the After-party at Innisfree and Nana Funks in Lakeview. This year’s event was hosted by Ollie Newton, Ashton Arrington, Derick Purdy, KC Miller, Catherine Allen, Sarah Benton and Kerby Smith just to name a few.

New Gallery: Art on the Rocks July ‘10

Birmingham Museum of Art hosted Art on the Rocks on friday, July 16, 2010. The second in the summer series of events for the museum. The theme of this exciting event was “Rockin in the Clouds”. Over 1500 guests enjoyed catering, food, and beverage from A Social Affair, Dale’s Seasoning and Birmingham Beverage. Live music by Dawes as well as the opportunity to participate in a Scavenger Hunt throughout the Museum for a chance to win a prize from Bromberg’s. Guests also participated in Art Activities inspired by Amy Pleasant’s work “Suspended”.
